Will an ECU tune void my BMW’s warranty?
A performance tune can affect specific warranty claims related to engine or drivetrain components if a fault is found to be tune related. We talk you through the trade offs before any work is done so you can make an informed decision, and can advise which upgrades carry the least risk to your existing warranty.
What’s the difference between a piggyback tune and a full ECU unlock?
A piggyback tune like the BMS JB4 sits between the factory ECU and the engine, adjusting signals without altering the original tune, which makes it easy to switch maps or revert to stock. A full ECU unlock rewrites the factory software directly, generally giving a smoother and more integrated result but with less flexibility to switch back instantly.
How much power can I safely add to my BMW?
It depends on the platform, the supporting modifications already fitted and how the car is driven. Turbocharged BMWs typically respond well to a tune plus supporting intake, exhaust and cooling upgrades, but pushing power without addressing cooling or fuelling can shorten the life of other components. We assess your specific model before recommending a power target.
Do I need to upgrade my fuel system for a bigger tune?
Mild to moderate tunes usually work within the factory fuel system’s limits. Higher power targets, particularly on older BMW platforms, may need supporting fuel system upgrades to maintain reliability. We’ll flag this during a consultation if your goals need it.
